Jenny and I are cousins but we were raised like siblings.
There aren’t too many people in the world who I know will always have my back, but Jenny is one of them.
The feeling is mutual, of course, and when Jenny was going through a rough time I was the only member of the family there to support her. Jenny dropped out of college to become a sculptor, which infuriated her parents. They are obsessed with getting a good job and starting a family, which is fine for me, but the antithesis of everything Jenny stands for. She doesn’t care about money, just truth and art. I had to help her with some of her sculptures, because they required a framework of rebar rods, wire ties, and forming wire. Jenny is a tiny little lady, and while her brain is powerful her muscle strength is not up to the task of manipulating rebar rods and properly using the double loop wire ties. These products are American made and built to last forever, which makes them incredibly difficult to work with. I offered to be her assistant, at least for the first part when we were building the skeleton of the sculpture out of rebar rods and forming wire. After the rebar was in place, and all the wire ties were tight, then she could handle the actual sculpting without any more help from me. I am eager to see the “before and after”, from when the sculpture is just a mess of rebar rods and forming wire to the gorgeous piece of art that it will become.
