I relocated to Jacksonville for college. I attended the University of North Florida. My love of the area, the weather and diversity of cultures inspired me to stay and find a job. Since I was unwilling to waste money paying rent, I immediately bought a house. The expense of maintaining a house was difficult. With an entry level position, my income was limited. Just paying the electric bill was a strain. In Jacksonville, the heat and humidity require air conditioning nearly year round. I had some problems with the roof, needed to replace a faulty hot water heater and replaced a broken refrigerator. The house had some major issues that I simply couldn’t afford to fix. There were concerns with mold because the crawlspace was not encapsulated. There was energy waste because of old windows and a lack of insulation. There was water damage due to a leaky roof and a minor infestation of termites. By not resolving these issues, the damage escalated. Then my mom called me and told me that my dad had fallen down the stairs. He went through surgery and physical rehabilitation. When he was allowed to go home, my parents were going to need some help. My mom couldn’t handle everything on her own. I felt it was necessary for me to return home. I was anxious to sell my house as quickly as possible. A cash home buyer was the ideal solution. I didn’t need to devote months to listings, showings and haggling. There was no worry over funding falling through for a potential buyer. I wasn’t forced to pay for expensive repairs and updates. It didn’t matter if the roof met local building codes or if the house could pass a safety inspection. I got an offer from the cash buyer the same day I submitted the contact form. The offer was acceptable. Once I agreed to it, the closing progressed very quickly. I was out of the house within ten days.
